You fight about money. You fight about the kids. You fight about whose priorities get advanced, and, when you are not fighting, you are not speaking at all. Even ordinary logistics feel too loaded to talk about, so the messages travel through your children instead: “Tell your father,” or “Ask your mother.”
Walking away could cost far more than just the marriage:
- The retirement you planned together
- The future you pictured with your grandchildren
- The work you were called to do, because the organization you serve would not accept a divorce
So you stay, and staying has started to feel like a sentence instead of a blessing.
The quiet part you do not say out loud is this: You are not sure this marriage will last, and you are not sure you could bear the cost of ending it.
